Malta run riot against Ireland to win the Alexandria Cup

The Maltese national Polo team saw off the Republic of Ireland 6-1 at the Malta Equidrome to win the Alexandria Cup. It was a match which the Maltese administered wellas they went on the attack so much so that by the first two chukkas they were winning 6-0.

In the third chukka no goal was scored so that in the last one the Irish reduced the scoring margin.

The Maltese had Matthew Borg and captain Martin Arrigo who scored two goals each while Jeremy Besancon and Karl Galea also added their names on the score sheet.

Mark Stone scored the only goal for the Irish.

At the end of the contest,  John Huber, Chairman of EquestriMalta in the presence of the Chief Executive Officer Max Zammit presented the cup to Maltese captain Martin Arrigo.

Meanwhile before the start of this international match an electronic scoreboard was inaugurated by the Minister for Education, Youth, Research and Innovation Dr. Clifton Grima. This scoreboard has replaced the manual one that was being used for the last few years. All this thanks to EquestriMalta who are working hard to attract more foreign teams to our country.

Malta: Matthew Borg, Martin Arrigo, Jeremy Besancon, Karl Galea.

Ireland: Paul Ronan, Eamonn Laverty, Mark Stone, David Stone.

Umpires were Chris Wightman and Mark Darmanin.

The third officer was Philip Wismayer.
