Birkirkara FC have officially confirmed an exclusive story published by Malta Sport earlier this morning regarding Alexander Satariano’s move to a Greek side.
In a statement released today, the club announced that their captain, Satariano, will be leaving after his request to pursue a new opportunity abroad was accepted. While the destination club has not been named officially, Malta Sport understands that the 23-year-old forward is set to join a team in the Greece.
“Alexander has been a true leader for this team, both on and off the pitch,” said club president Michael Valenzia. “While it is always difficult to part ways with a player of his calibre, we fully respected his desire to explore a new challenge abroad.”
Satariano joined Birkirkara on 26 August 2023, making 65 appearances and scoring six goals, including two appearances in European competitions. Appointed club captain in January 2025, he was instrumental in guiding the team to European qualification last season.
Described by the club as a “fan favourite” and a “key figure” both on and off the pitch, Satariano leaves with the full support of the Birkirkara family.
As the striker prepares to begin a new chapter in his career, Birkirkara FC are already working behind the scenes to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
According to sources close to Malta Sport, Alex Satariano is on the verge of completing a move to Greece after bidding farewell to his Birkirkara teammates. The Maltese international, who also serves as captain of the Premier League club, trained for the last time with Birkirkara yesterday before informing the squad of his decision to continue his career abroad.
Satariano, 23, has already attracted international attention in the past, having had a trial with Panserraikos in Greece in 2022. The striker is no stranger to playing abroad, having previously played in Italy with Frosinone and Pergolettese, and in Slovakia with Dunajská Streda.
The move to Greece would mark another step in Satariano’s career as he seeks to establish himself further in European football. The exact club he will be joining is yet to be confirmed, but sources suggest an announcement could be imminent.
Satariano has been a key figure for both Birkirkara and the Malta national team, where his work rate and leadership qualities have made him a regular call-up. His departure will be a significant change for the Stripes ahead of the new season. Further updates will be provided by Malta Sport as soon as the transfer is officially confirmed.
