Barcelona missed the opportunity to return to the summit of LaLiga as they suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Sevilla on Sunday.
The reigning champions were stunned early on at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, with former Barça midfielder Alexis Sánchez and Isaac Romero netting for the hosts within the first 36 minutes.
Marcus Rashford pulled one back for the visitors with a well-taken volley in first-half stoppage time, but Robert Lewandowski failed to convert a penalty after Rashford was fouled, missing a key chance to draw level.
Sevilla capitalized on the miss, sealing the win with late goals from José Ángel Carmona and Akor Adams.
The hosts dominated large parts of the match, especially in the opening half. Sánchez had already come close before Sevilla were awarded a penalty via VAR following a clash between Ronald Araújo and Romero. Sánchez made no mistake from the spot and nearly assisted Romero shortly after, though the striker dragged his shot wide.
Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny kept the score down temporarily with fine saves from Romero and Batista Mendy, while Romero also squandered another promising chance.
Sevilla’s second goal came from a swift counter-attack after Jules Koundé lost possession in midfield — Ruben Vargas whipped in a cross that Romero converted clinically.
Barcelona responded before halftime, with Rashford denied by keeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. However, the England international found the net moments later, steering in a composed volley from Pedri’s precise delivery.
