Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp spoke after his team’s 1:0 loss to Bournemouth in the 27th round of the Premier League, and he touched on Mohamed Salah’s missed penalty.
“What can I say? At no point was this our game? We dominated the first half but put the ball inside at the wrong times against a compact opponent. They had their own counters that they wanted, and we were not pleased with such a withdrawn opponent”, said Klopp and added:
“Small things make a huge difference, some balls didn’t go through, and then we conceded a goal from a counterattack, we didn’t defend well. I think we started the second half well, we missed a penalty, and after that, we were in a hurry and didn’t create enough chances. That’s it”:
In the 67th minute, Mohamed Salah missed the penalty.
“It was a long time ago when we got the last penalty in the league… This is completely hypothetical, but if we scored a goal then, the game could have turned around. It doesn’t make our game better, but at least the result could have been better. Salah scores a lot of goals, but now he missed the penalty, that’s life”.
The German expert says that it was clear to him from the start that his team was in for a tough job.
“They are fighting for survival, a wonderful club and a wonderful city. They haven’t had the right results in recent months, but their game is good and today they deserved three points”, concluded Klopp.
