Neto's equalizer gives point to Chelsea against rivals Arsenal

Pedro Neto’s goal equalized Gabriel Martinelli’s opener as Arsenal and Chelsea played to a tense 1-1 draw, leaving both teams nine points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Enzo Maresca’s squad received a boost with Cole Palmer fit to start, and he quickly made an impact, forcing David Raya to tip his 25-yard shot over the bar. The home side created more chances, with Noni Madueke heading wide and Malo Gusto missing a prime opportunity by heading Neto’s cross over the bar from close range.

Arsenal, bolstered by the return of Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice, began to find their rhythm. Martinelli’s shot was saved by Robert Sanchez, and the Gunners thought they had taken the lead when Rice’s quick free-kick set up Kai Havertz for a finish into the bottom corner. However, VAR intervened, ruling the goal offside.

The second half saw Chelsea nearly score when Wesley Fofana lifted the ball onto the roof of the net after evading William Saliba. Arsenal finally took the lead on the hour mark when Odegaard’s cross was converted by Martinelli at the far post. Yet, Neto equalized just ten minutes later.

Both teams sought a winner, with Arsenal coming closest when Odegaard’s pass found Saliba, whose cutback to Trossard was misfired, sending the ball wide and denying Havertz a better scoring chance. The draw leaves both teams in the top four, but Arsenal still has significant work ahead to secure their first Premier League title since the 2003/04 season.
