Manchester City started their Premier League season in style with a comfortable 4-0 win away at Wolves.
Erling Haaland missed an early header before Wolves had a goal ruled out for offside. But City soon took control. Haaland scored the opener by tapping in a low cross from Rico Lewis. Moments later, new signing Tijjani Reijnders made it 2-0 with a tidy first-time finish after a quick break.
Wolves came out better in the second half and had a couple of chances, with Jørgen Strand Larsen going close. But City ended any hopes of a comeback just after the hour mark when Haaland scored again, this time from a Reijnders cutback.
Late in the game, another new face, Rayan Cherki, scored City’s fourth with a low shot into the corner, rounding off a strong performance.
Wolves’ poor record in August continues, with just one win in their last 21 league games in the month. City’s win puts them top of the table early on.
