The French government has decided that all participants in sports events must be vaccinated, which can be a problem for Chelsea before visiting Lille.
The club from Stamford Bridge will visit Lille on March 16 as part of the rematch of the eighth-finals of the Champions League. As things currently stand, “The Blues” will have to play that match without unvaccinated players.
UEFA has clear rules when it comes to this case, at least for now. If any regulations of a state related to the coronavirus prevent players from playing a match, those players will be treated as “positive” and will not be available for that match.
FIFA plans to discuss possible solutions to this problem. The meetings should take place next week and possible changes would be made before the matches of the eighth-finals.
It is not yet known who was vaccinated at Chelsea and who was not, but it is known that only 68 percent of players in the Premier League received two doses of the vaccine.
Thomas Tuchel has often talked about how important it is for players to be vaccinated, and it is believed that Chelsea could almost certainly have some significant absences when visiting the current champion of France.
