Chelsea’s veteran defender, Thiago Silva, suffered a knee ligament injury during their Premier League game against Tottenham.
The Brazilian was forced to leave the game in the 19th minute, which resulted in Chelsea losing 0:2 against their London rivals.
Although Chelsea did not provide a specific timeline for Silva’s return, Sky Sports reported that the 38-year-old center-back could be out of action for at least six weeks.
“After sustaining a knee injury during the first half of our game against Tottenham, Thiago underwent medical examinations upon his return to our training center on Monday. The results of the scans confirmed a ligament injury, and he will now begin rehabilitation with our medical team to ensure a speedy recovery,” Chelsea stated in a press release.
If Silva is out for six weeks, he will miss the crucial second leg of Chelsea’s Champions League Round of 16 tie against Borussia Dortmund, as well as any potential quarter-final fixtures.
Chelsea’s next match is on Saturday against Leeds United in the Premier League, where they will have to find a way to cope without the experienced defender.
