Romelu Lukaku scored the winning goal against Porto in the final 16 of the Champions League last night, and Inter director Beppe Marotta revealed why the Belgian was not part of the starting line-up.
Last night, Inter beat Porto 1:0 at their stadium in the Round of 16 of the Champions League. The decisive goal was the work of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, who scored the winner four minutes before the end of the regular part of the match.
Before kick-off, Nerazzurri director Beppe Marotta reflected on the decision to have Lukaku start the match from the bench.
“You ask me why Lukaku is on the bench? The answer is simple because he weighs 103 kilograms and is not physically ready to play from the start. For a player to be in the first 11, he has to be 100% ready, and Lukaku is certainly not that,’ said Marotta, and then added:
“He had a terrible season in which he also played at the World Cup in Qatar. Since his return to Inter, he has not given what we all know he can do, but we are convinced that he will put himself in order and that he will be important for us at the end of the season.’
