Atalanta extend unbeaten Serie A run with win against Lazio

Atalanta BC extended their unbeaten run in Serie A in 2026 with a 2-0 away victory against SS Lazio. The result marked Atalanta’s sixth win in eight league matches this calendar year, while Lazio have now recorded only one victory in their last seven home league fixtures.

With only three of Atalanta’s previous 12 matches featuring goals for both sides, the opening goal carried added importance. The visitors nearly broke the deadlock after just over 15 minutes. Lorenzo Bernasconi reached a long ball ahead of Ivan Provedel and cut it back for Nikola Krstovic. His effort was diverted over the bar on the goal line by Oliver Provstgaard.

Lazio responded shortly afterwards. Kenneth Taylor produced an acrobatic attempt that was saved comfortably by Marco Carnesecchi. Before the half hour mark, Taylor struck the post after being set up inside the area by Daniel Maldini, who is currently on loan from Atalanta.

As the first half progressed, opportunities were largely limited to attempts from distance. However, shortly before the interval, a cross from Davide Zappacosta was blocked by the arm of Danilo Cataldi. Following a lengthy review, a penalty was awarded. Ederson converted the spot kick, sending Provedel the wrong way to score his first league goal of the season.

Early in the second half, Lazio were awarded a penalty when Zappacosta was adjudged to have handled the ball while challenging Nuno Tavares. After another review, the decision was overturned due to an offside infringement in the build up.

Carnesecchi then denied Lazio again by tipping away a glancing header from Tijjani Noslin. Just before the hour mark, Atalanta doubled their advantage. Nicola Zalewski received the ball on the turn and struck a 20 yard effort into the bottom corner beyond Provedel.

Lazio, managed by Maurizio Sarri, have taken only one point this season from league matches in which they conceded first. Their hopes of recovery were reduced further when Maldini sent an effort over the bar and saw a free kick saved by Carnesecchi. In the 90th minute, Petar Ratkov headed against the post.

The result represents another positive away performance in this fixture for Atalanta, who have suffered only one defeat in their last nine visits to Lazio. Meanwhile, Lazio’s three match unbeaten run in all competitions has come to an end.
