Burnley have secured promotion to the Premier League, joining Leeds at the top of the Championship, after a 2-1 win over third-placed Sheffield United on Monday night.
Leeds had already done their part earlier in the day with a thumping 6-0 win over Stoke, and then had to wait to see if Burnley could seal the deal. Two goals from captain Josh Brownhill were enough to confirm the Clarets’ return to the top flight, extending their superb season, having only conceded 15 goals all year.
Speaking after the game, Brownhill said: “I’m speechless. People called us boring, but we’ve bored our way back to the Premier League. It took the whole team to get here.”
Leeds, level on 94 points with Burnley but ahead on goal difference, also returned to the top flight after missing out in last season’s playoff final. Manager Daniel Farke praised his team’s character and compared striker Joel’s scoring comeback to a “bottle of ketchup – nothing, then everything at once.”

Sheffield United’s recent poor form, including three straight losses, cost them a shot at automatic promotion. They’ll now have to settle for a playoff place, alongside Sunderland, Bristol City and Coventry – though Middlesbrough, Millwall, and Blackburn are still in the race.
