Luton Town have appointed former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere as first-team manager, handing the 33-year-old his first permanent job in senior management. He succeeds Matt Bloomfield, who was dismissed last week, with Luton sitting mid-table in League One after consecutive relegations.
Wilshere returns to the club where he spent part of his youth before moving to Arsenal. Since retiring, he has coached Arsenal’s under-18s and served on Norwich City’s staff, including a brief interim spell in charge late last season. Chris Powell will join as his assistant.
Calling it a “full circle moment,” Wilshere said he wants to build a side that Luton supporters can be proud of, stressing belief, unity and hard work. He is expected to take charge of the home match against Mansfield this weekend.
Luton’s rapid rise to the Premier League was followed by a swift fall, with the club suffering back-to-back relegations. Wilshere’s task is to stabilise results, develop a youthful core, and push back toward the Championship.
