St George’s secure Semi-Final spot with commanding win

St George’s have confirmed their place in the semi-finals of the Women’s National Beach Soccer Championship with an emphatic 8–2 victory over Lija Athletics, securing second place in the final standings behind group leaders Swieqi United.

The Bormla-based side produced a dominant display, with Liliana Coherte scoring twice to lead the attack. Goals also came from Shakira Bugeja, Ilenia Navarro, Estephany Colomenarez, Laury Carrasco, Jeanelle Falzon, and Alexandra, in a match that underlined their attacking depth and tactical discipline.

Lija Athletics, who finished bottom of the group, managed to pull two goals back through Nell Zarb Cousin and Jasmine Vella Turner, but were ultimately outclassed by a St George’s side in top form. Stefania Bonnici and Sara Kankaras officiated the match.

In the other fixture, Zero Sei cruised to a 10–4 win over Parr Mela Rockets, capitalising on defensive errors in a high-scoring encounter. Rocio Robles delivered a standout performance, netting five goals, while Demi Magrin added four. Eliza Czik also got on the scoresheet for the winning side.

Parr Mela’s response came through Edna Vargas, who scored a hat-trick, and Isabel Otero, but their efforts were not enough to halt Zero Sei’s momentum. The match was officiated by Stefania Bonnici and Igor Kankaras.

With the group phase now concluded, attention turns to the semi-finals, scheduled for 25 and 26 June. Swieqi United, who topped the table with a perfect record of 12 points, will meet Parr Mela, while St George’s face Zero Sei in what is expected to be a closely fought contest.
