Franklin Sasere joins Birkirkara as stripes reinforce attack

Birkirkara have officially announced the signing of Nigerian striker Franklin Sasere, as the club looks to fill the attacking void left by the departure of Maxuell Maia and the uncertain future of Paul Mbong.

Sasere, 26, joins the Stripes as a free agent after his contract with Floriana FC was not renewed. The powerful forward is no stranger to Maltese football, having previously worn the shirts of both Ħamrun Spartans and Floriana, scoring an impressive 31 goals across both stints. His familiarity with the local game and proven scoring touch made him the club’s first-choice target.

“Birkirkara is pleased to announce the signing of Nigerian forward, Franklin Sasere,” the club said in a statement. “The 26-year-old powerhouse is no new face to Malta, having had previous experiences with Ħamrun Spartans FC and Floriana FC. The prolific striker will bring valuable experience to the squad.”

Speaking on his new chapter, Sasere said, “I’m excited to join this historic club, and I’m ready to give my all for the team. I am excited to experience this new chapter and face new challenges.”

His arrival comes at a key time for Birkirkara. Maxuell Maia recently moved to Gżira United, while Paul Mbong, a player once regarded as a rising star at the club, appears to be heading for the exit door. As MaltaSport exclusively reported, Mbong was disciplined by the club’s internal structures, and Birkirkara are no longer interested in renewing his contract full report here.

Sasere’s signing is expected to bring stability and physical presence to the front line as Birkirkara gear up for both domestic challenges and their upcoming European fixtures.
