Virtus decided at all costs to annul the poor results in the Eurocup (the effect of seven wins and six defeats) and hire reinforcements that will take them to the Euroleague.
The Italian club used CSKA’s torment and the current suspension from the Euroleague (most likely after March 21 and the definitive exclusion) to bring in Daniel Hackett.
According to the Spanish media, Virtus is one step away from signing a contract with Tornike Shengelia! He is the best player of CSKA and one of the best “fours” in Europe.
Like Hackett, Shengelia recently left the “Army” due to the overall political situation and returned to Spain, where his family lives.
Valencia tried to take advantage of that situation and persuade a strong basketball player to stay in that country, but apparently the Georgian made a different decision.

As Shengelia averaged 12.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in the Euroleague this season, there is no doubt that he will be a huge reinforcement for Virtus.
Which puts the Italian representative in the circle of perhaps the absolute favorite to win the Eurocup. Who knows, maybe the team is preparing to take the place of Russian clubs in the Euroleague next season (along with Partizan and Valencia).
Hence the most likely option for Shengelia is to sign a contract with Virtus by the summer of 2023…
