Basketball twins Amen and Ausar Thompson made history yesterday, as the first twins were selected in the first five picks in the NBA draft.
That hasn’t happened since 1976, but they aren’t the only twins, as in 2011 the Markieff brothers and Marcus Morris were drafted together, with the Suns selecting Markieff with the 13th pick and Houston Marcus with the 14th pick.
In this draft, Amen was selected as the fourth pick of Houston, while Detroit took Ausar as the fifth.
What is interesting in their case is that neither of them played college basketball, but joined the Overtime Elite League, which is based in Atlanta, two years ago.
They drew attention to themselves with their speed, athletic ability and great cooperation on the field.
Ausar averaged 16.3 points with 6.1 assists and 7.1 rebounds per game for the City Ripers this season, while Amen in the same team had 16.4 points with 5.9 assists and rebounds.
Now they will have to split up and play against each other, we’ll see how they fare in the NBA.
