Malta U21 target identity and balance ahead of Germany test

As Malta’s Under 21 national team prepares to face Germany, coach Davide Mazzotta has underlined a clear focus on identity and balance as the squad embraces one of its toughest assignments of the campaign.

Malta is in Germany for their second away match of the UEFA European Under-21 Qualifiers, to be played on Friday, 14 November 2025, at the Sportpark Ronhof Thomas Sommer in Fürth. Kick off is at 18:00, live on TVMSport.mt. The team will then host Latvia on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, at the Centenary Stadium (kick off 19:00), with tickets available via the Malta FA portal.

“We prepared excellently for this international window,” Mazzotta said. “In our view, it was the best yet for commitment, growth and participation. We are very satisfied with how new information and instructions were absorbed by the boys.” He added that the group understands the direction required and that he can build on the work of his predecessors, taking growth step by step.

Mazzotta acknowledged Germany’s strength at this level but insisted Malta will make life difficult for their hosts. “They are among the very best, but this is part of our growth and our project,” he noted. He urged his players to believe in themselves and look within for their passion and competitive fire rather than focusing solely on the opposition.

The coach framed the team’s path around three pillars: who we are, who the others are, and balance. “From today, this must never be forgotten; it has to become part of our DNA. Starting today, day one, we will try to put this into practice on the pitch.”

This will be Malta’s fourth qualifier. While points have yet to arrive, the two upcoming fixtures offer a platform to show tangible progress from one window to the next. Mazzotta and his staff also called on supporters to get behind the team, reminding fans that these players are, and will be, an important part of the future of Maltese football.
