Marketa Vondrousova stunned 9th seed Elena Rybakina to reach the quarter-finals of the US Open for the second time in her career. The unseeded Czech, a former Wimbledon champion, won 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, knocking out her second top-10 opponent this week after beating Jasmine Paolini in round three.
World No. 60 Vondrousova, who missed last year’s tournament due to shoulder surgery, called the moment “amazing,” adding: “After everything I’ve been through, it’s amazing to be standing here again.”
She now faces defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the next round.
