Britain’s Jack Draper has been knocked out of the Miami Open in the second round, beaten by American Reilly Opelka in straight sets, 7-6 7-6.
Opelka was in devastating form with his serve, firing 25 aces and 47 winners throughout the match. Draper, who had reached the quarter-finals at Indian Wells just days earlier, had little answer to the American’s dominant display.
“I didn’t have many chances, especially on his serve,” Draper said afterwards.
Elsewhere, rain caused significant disruption to the schedule in Miami Gardens, with several matches pushed back to Saturday.
Despite the difficult conditions, the top seeds got through without too many alarms. Women’s world number one Aryna Sabalenka battled past Ann Li 7-6 6-4, admitting afterwards that it was far from her best tennis but praising her opponent’s aggressive style of play.

Men’s top seed Carlos Alcaraz was far more comfortable, cruising past Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca 6-4 6-4 to keep his title challenge firmly on track.
World number two Elena Rybakina also progressed with a straightforward 6-3 6-3 win over fellow Kazakh Yulia Putintseva.
There was a notable upset elsewhere, as Italy’s Matteo Berrettini, a former world number six, knocked out 10th seed Alexander Bublik 6-4 6-4.
