Adults aged 50 and over, as well as younger vulnerable adults, are being invited to come along and try walking football at a free Open Day in Pembroke this Saturday.
The event takes place on 28 March between 8am and 12pm at St Klara Primary School in Pembroke. It is open to everyone and is completely free of charge, with no need to register in advance.
The Open Day is part of the WALK FIT project, which aims to get older adults active through sport and bring communities together. It is being organised by Swieqi United Football Club alongside Italian club A.S.D. Real Sala Bolognese.
Walking football is a slower, gentler version of the game, designed to reduce the risk of injury and make sport accessible to those who may have stepped away from physical activity. As well as keeping participants fit, organisers say it also does wonders for mental wellbeing and gives people a great chance to socialise.

Earlier this year, a series of training sessions were held in February for coaches and referees, helping to lay the foundations for the sport to grow in Malta. Those trained are now helping to run community sessions across the country.
The project has an international dimension too, with activities running in both Malta and Bologna, Italy. It will all build towards an international walking football tournament in Malta later this year, with Maltese and Italian teams going head to head and families encouraged to come along and cheer them on.
Simply turn up on the day to take part.
