Naomi Osaka is through to the semi-finals of the WTA Canadian Open after a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 victory over Elina Svitolina on Tuesday. Osaka needed just 68 minutes to win and will now face Danish player Clara Tauson in the next round.
Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam winner, is aiming for her first WTA title since the 2021 Australian Open. “I’m just enjoying myself on court. I’m happy to be here,” she said. “I think I’ll be seeded at the US Open now, which was one of my goals.”
Clara Tauson also impressed, defeating Australian Open champion Madison Keys 6-1, 6-4. Tauson said her win was emotional as she dedicated it to her grandfather, who passed away two days ago. “I really wanted to win for him today,” she said in tears.

Tauson had already knocked out Iga Swiatek earlier in the tournament and is now one win away from her second WTA 1000 final. Her only other final at this level was in Dubai earlier this year.
In the other semi-final, Elena Rybakina will face 18-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko. The two played last month, with Rybakina winning in straight sets.
