Carlos Alcaraz is through to the third round at Wimbledon after a straight-sets win over British wildcard Ollie Tarvet, with a score of 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday.
Tarvet, ranked 733 in the world, had impressed fans with his effort and determination, but the 22-year-old defending champion proved too strong with his powerful game.
Alcaraz had to work hard early on, saving eight break points in the first set, but still only dropped one game. Tarvet managed to break his serve at the start of the second set to lead 2-0, but Alcaraz quickly responded and regained control.
In the third set, the Spaniard went up 3-2, and although Tarvet broke back immediately, Alcaraz once again raised his level and broke serve to finish the match. He sealed the win with a powerful serve, drawing loud cheers from the crowd, who also showed appreciation for Tarvet’s performance.

Alcaraz congratulated Tarvet after the match and praised him, saying:
“I just loved his game, to be honest. I knew from the start I had to play my best tennis.”
Tarvet, a 21-year-old student based in San Diego, has gained plenty of fans after his run, even though his Wimbledon journey has now come to an end.
