Carlos Alcaraz has won the 2025 Cincinnati Open after Jannik Sinner was forced to retire from the final due to illness.
The match ended during the first set, with Alcaraz leading 5-0. Sinner, who had been feeling unwell since Sunday, said he had hoped to feel better overnight but got worse.
“I’m really sorry to disappoint you,” said Sinner to the crowd. “I tried to at least play a bit, but I couldn’t keep going.”
Alcaraz, who has faced Sinner in four finals this season, showed support for his opponent:
“I’m sure you’ll come back even stronger. That’s what true champions do,” he said.

This win adds another title to Alcaraz’s growing list and continues his strong form heading into the US Open.
