Carlos Alcaraz surprised the tennis world on Wednesday by announcing the end of his long-standing coaching relationship with Juan Carlos Ferrero. The Spanish duo had enjoyed significant success together, with Ferrero guiding Alcaraz to all six of his Grand Slam titles and helping him achieve his best season to date in 2025.
The 2025 season proved to be the most successful of Alcaraz’s career. He won both the French Open and the US Open, captured a total of eight trophies, and finished the year as the world number one. His coaching team was also recognised with the ATP Coach of the Year award. Despite these achievements, Alcaraz decided to bring an end to the partnership that had lasted over seven years.
In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Alcaraz wrote, “It is very hard for me to write this post. We made this decision together. Thank you for turning my childhood dreams into reality. We started this journey when I was still a kid.”
He added, “We reached the top together, and I think if our paths are ever to part, now is the right time. At the very moment we always aimed for. So many memories are flooding my mind that picking just one would not be fair. You helped me grow as an athlete, but above all as a person. Now it is time for change for both of us, bringing new adventures ahead.”
Despite Ferrero’s departure, Samuel Lopez, another member of Alcaraz’s coaching team, will remain with the world number one as he aims to win his first Australian Open title and achieve a career Grand Slam.
Ferrero, who previously coached Alexander Zverev, is expected to attract interest from other top players if he chooses to continue his coaching career. According to Spanish daily Marca, several top ten players have reportedly already approached him with offers.
This decision marks the end of a highly successful chapter in Alcaraz’s career, signalling a new direction for the young Spaniard as he prepares for the challenges of the 2026 season.
