The second edition of the Marindex Trophies Volleyball Christmas Tournament will be organised by Paola Volleyball Club between Wednesday 13th and Sunday 17th December 2023. The tournament will be held at Corradino Sports Pavilion. The First Division team of Paola, Yes2 Health Fitness Club, Superleague team of Birkirkara and First Division team of Mġarr, will be playing in this tournament, alongside the host team, Paola Executive Security, the women’s Superleague team of Paola Volleyball Club, led by coach Mark Ħili,
The tournament forms part of the Paola club strategy to continue promoting this sport discipline in Malta. Dr Kenneth Vella, Club President, started by thanking Birkirkara and Mġarr delegates, who willingly accepted the Paola club’s invite to participate in this tournament for the second time in a row, and also the club coaches and committee. Special thanks goes also to Marindex Trophies which also accepted to sponsor the event for another year.
“As expected, this season has been challenging for the Paola teams in the Superleague and First Division leagues. The Superleague team has just been promoted and is establishing itself among the other teams in the league. On the other hand, the First Division team is formed by new players and is undergoing an experimental phase.
“The club is currently investing in various initiatives, even to strengthen the club nursery, thanks to the work of Carmen Gauci and Antonio Borg, and also on an administrative level, through the work of Alexia Brincau, Tiziana Bonnici and Claire Falzon. Alessio Muscat is also coordinating social volleyball sessions which are held every Saturday at Corradino Pavilion,” added Dr Vella.
Dr Vella insisted that this tournament would not have been possible without the support of the Malta Volleyball Association, led by the President, Engineer Edward Gatt, and the club sponsors, Marindex Trophies, Executive Security Services, Yes2Health Fitness Club, Maypole, Izibet and Dragonara Casino And Brasserie.
Paola Volleyball Club plans to keep the Christmas tournament an annual fixture in the club’s activities. Last season’s edition was won by Birkirkara. The programme of the Christmas tournament is as follows:
