The Malta Waterpolo Referees Association (MWRA) has confirmed that Massimo Angileri has been unanimously appointed interim President, while also continuing in his role as Treasurer for the upcoming 2025–26 season.
Angileri expressed his appreciation at being entrusted with the role, stating that he is “honoured and proud to serve” the association. He emphasised the MWRA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the quality and consistency of officiating across all levels of domestic water polo, while continuing to uphold professionalism and respect within the sport.
The MWRA also confirmed that Peter Balzan will remain in his position as General Secretary and Council Member for another season, ensuring continuity and stability within the organisation’s leadership structure. Balzan noted that he looks forward to continuing to support the association’s work and contributing to its development.
In addition, Luke Galea has been appointed the association’s new Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the forthcoming season. Galea highlighted the increasing visibility and significance of water polo in Malta, adding that he hopes to promote the role of officials and help attract new referees to the sport in the coming years.
The updated leadership group is expected to guide the association through the upcoming competitive calendar, with an emphasis on development, recruitment and ongoing professional standards in Maltese water polo officiating.
