Sirens Women’s Water Polo Team made history this weekend after winning all three of their matches to secure an outstanding fifth-place finish in the European Aquatics Women’s Challenger Cup classification round held in Malta at the Cottonera Sports Complex.

The senior ladies’ side strongly began their campaign with a 16-9 victory over London Otters, setting the tone for what would become a memorable European outing on home soil.

Sirens followed that up with another dominant display, overcoming Slavia UK Bratislava WP 18-7 to maintain their perfect record and move within one win of a landmark achievement.

They then sealed fifth place in style by defeating San Ġiljan ASC 16-4, completing a clean sweep across the weekend and confirming what is understood to be the highest finish ever achieved by a Maltese club in a European Cup competition.

It was a superb collective effort from Sirens, who not only delivered three victories from three matches but also underlined the growing strength and potential of women’s water polo in Malta on the European stage.
A fifth-place finish may only tell part of the story. For Sirens, this was a historic statement.
