European Aquatics has confirmed that a joint integrity review is currently underway into alleged betting irregularities linked to the European Water Polo Championships held in Belgrade this January.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the governing body said the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness as concerns continue to emerge over possible irregular betting activity during the tournament.
European Aquatics said that, in the interest of transparency and in order to safeguard the reputation of water polo, the Integrity Units of World Aquatics, European Aquatics and the Aquatics Sports Association of Malta will be working closely together throughout the investigation process.

The review is being carried out under a clear agreement between all parties involved, with European Aquatics confirming that its Independent Integrity Unit is currently assessing the available information in close cooperation with the Aquatics Integrity Unit and ASA Malta.
European Aquatics also acknowledged the cooperation of ASA Malta president Karl Izzo, praising his diligence in the matter as the process continues.
The case is expected to remain under scrutiny in the coming weeks as the relevant bodies continue examining the information available.
