Champions Gżira United lost 6-3 to MFPA on the opening day of the Veterans Malta FA Premier League.
It was a close match. Although MFPA were in front for most of the game, Gżira kept replying, but in the end they could not keep up.
For the Malta Football Players Association, Jonathan Bondin scored a hat-trick, while Julian Galea, Stephen Wellman and Manuel Sevasta each added a goal.
Gżira United’s goals all came from Kevin Sammut, who also scored a hat-trick.
Referee was Lorry Sammut.
In another exciting match, Hibernians began their season well with a 6–5 win over Floriana. Both teams struggled in defence, but Hibernians managed to take the three important points.
Johnny Camilleri scored twice for Hibernians, with Daniel Fodermayer, Glanville Goodlip, Steven Bonnici and Clayton Micallef also scoring.
For Floriana, Manolito Micallef was in great form with four goals, while Dylan Grima added another.

Luxol St Andrew’s beat Rabat Veterans 2-1.
Glenn Bonello and Tyron Borg scored for Luxol, while Robert Perkins scored for Rabat.

Żurrieq Wolves made a strong start to their season with a 3–2 win over Birkirkara St Helen’s.
John Clarence Conger Thompson scored twice and Bjorn Bondin got the third for Żurrieq.
Ayrton Duncan and Federico Tejada Marine scored for Birkirkara.
