Bormla Subbuteo Club, Malta’s top-ranked subbuteo team, proudly finished 5th in the ECSTFA Champions League held in Athens, Greece. Drawn into Group A, the Maltese team started strong with a 3-1 victory over Belgium’s Hennuyer. Bormla faced a narrow 1-2 defeat to local favorites Falcons Greece, followed by a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Salernitana of Italy.
In their next matches, Bormla fell 0-3 to eventual finalists Reggio Emilia Frat Bari but bounced back with powerful wins, beating Noctuas Greece 2-0 and Phoenix Austria 4-0 to secure 3rd place in their group with 10 points, advancing to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinal, Bormla battled fiercely but fell 1-2 in a close match against semi-finalists Napoli Eagles, who went on to take 3rd place in the tournament. Competing in the 5th-8th place playoffs, Bormla defeated Stembert 4-0, then secured 5th place with a tight 2-1 win over Salernitana.
The Bormla squad included Charles Aquilina, Jason Pisani, William Van Den Houte, Bessim Golger, George Ebejer, Jean Carl Tabone, Mauro Camilleri, and Josef Camilleri.
