The Malta Weightlifting Association recently held its Annual Awards Ceremony to celebrate the hard work and success in the sport. The event recognised the top athletes of the year for their dedication and achievements.
The highest award, the Platinum Award, was given to Tenishia Thornton and Kim Camilleri Lagana for their exceptional performances throughout the year.
Nathan Mifsud won the Achievement Award for breaking the most national records, with Rylee Borg in second place and Tenishia Thornton in third. Mifsud also took home the Silver Award for high rankings and the Most Improved Athlete Award, where Mia Sant and Nathan Balzan were also honoured.
The Bronze Award went to Rylee Borg, Aaliyah Gatt, and Kaya Curmi Inguanez for their impressive achievements. Gabriel Frendo was named Promising Athlete, while Kenzy Geriwa was recognised as the Most Improved Newcomer.














The awards were presented by Alfred Ellul Mercer, Honorary President of the Malta Weightlifting Association. In his speech, MWA President Jesmond Caruana emphasised the importance of recognising the athletes’ hard work:
“These awards go beyond just trophies—they show our athletes’ immense dedication. They strive for excellence, not only for themselves but for Malta on the global stage.”
The ceremony celebrated the strength and determination of Malta’s weightlifting community, setting the stage for even greater success in the future.
