The 2024 Rolex Middle Sea Race keeps expanding

Entries are rolling in for the 45th Rolex Middle Sea Race, set to begin on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from Grand Harbour, Valletta. This prestigious event continues to attract a diverse fleet of experienced sailors and adventurous newcomers, drawn by the stunning scenery and challenging tactical course.

Leading the pack is Seng Huang Lee’s 100-foot Maxi, Scallywag, helmed by veteran David Witt. Andrea Recordati, the 2023 overall winner, is back with his 93-foot Bullitt, promising fierce competition. The Maxi fleet also welcomes the Volvo 70 Dinzer Doo, entered by Daniel Thomas and his daughter Mika, alongside Diego Paternò Castello’s 69-foot Nacira 69, which has prior offshore experience.

The Swan 65, Eve, owned by Australians Steve Capell and Fraser Welch, is on a round-the-world journey and aims to blend cruising with racing. Another Swan 65, Six Jaguar, will make its Rolex Middle Sea Race debut with a diverse Spanish crew seeking new challenges.

Gerald Boess, owner of the 41-foot Quo, is returning for his 10th race, bringing valuable experience from various offshore competitions. He appreciates the race’s unique challenges and the camaraderie it fosters.

Onshore, the Royal Malta Yacht Club is enhancing its sustainability efforts with the launch of its Sustainability Compass, promoting eco-friendly practices within the sailing community.
