Jarhead Young Sailors Foundation set sail with bold new look

The Jarhead Young Sailors Foundation (JYSF) has taken a significant step forward with the launch of its newly branded J109 racing yacht, Jarhead. The updated design reflects the Foundation’s growth and strengthens its identity both on and off the water, while remaining true to its mission of introducing young sailors to the sport.

This launch marks the first stage of a wider project in collaboration with MMH Malta Ltd, a long-standing supporter of the Foundation. MMH Malta Ltd has funded the branding of both JYSF boats, Jarhead and her sister boat, JYS Jan. The wrapping of Jarhead has now been completed, with JYS Jan set to be unveiled in the coming weeks in a different colour scheme but a coordinated design.

Wilfrid Buttigieg, Administrator for the Jarhead Young Sailors Foundation, said: “While the essence of the Foundation remains focused upon creating opportunities for young sailors to develop life skills through sailing, we also recognise the importance of presenting a strong and professional image. Thanks to MMH Malta Ltd, this has been made possible.”

Angelique Abela, CEO of MMH Malta Ltd and an avid sailor herself, attended the launch. Abela has a long-standing connection with the Foundation, having frequently sailed alongside its crews. She commented: “At MMH, we are proud and excited to support the Jarhead Young Sailors Foundation because the JYSF is an organisation that goes far beyond racing. By sponsoring the new boat wrapping and other related works, our aim is to raise awareness for the Foundation, give it the visibility it deserves, and share its energy with a wider audience. The Jarhead Foundation is not only about competing in prestigious races like the Rolex Middle Sea Race, it is about inspiring young sailors and building a community. And of course, a striking boat makes that message even more powerful.”

The Jarhead Foundation has consistently fielded crews in the Rolex Middle Sea Race, blending experienced skippers with novice sailors. Participants undergo rigorous training to improve performance and to cultivate teamwork, discipline and lasting friendships. Despite often being younger and less experienced than many competitors, the Foundation’s teams have achieved notable successes, including podium finishes in their respective classes.

The refreshed design of Jarhead marks another chapter in the Foundation’s ongoing mission to inspire young sailors and promote the sport while maintaining a professional and visible presence on the international racing scene.
