Williams replaces Logan Sargeant with Franco Colapinto for the rest of the season

Williams has announced that Franco Colapinto will step in for Logan Sargeant for the remainder of the Formula 1 season after Sargeant’s crash at the Dutch Grand Prix last weekend.

It was already confirmed that Sargeant, who is in his second season in F1, would be replaced by outgoing Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz for the next season. However, due to the crash during the final practice at Zandvoort, his replacement has been expedited.

Colapinto will make his competitive debut at the Italian Grand Prix this weekend. He had previously participated in practice sessions for Williams during the British Grand Prix.

Sergeant has been unsuccessful in securing any points so far this season and has only managed to accumulate a single point from a total of 36 races in the previous season and a half.

Williams team principal, James Vowles, stated, “The decision to replace a driver mid-season was not taken lightly. However, we firmly believe that this move will provide Williams with the best chance to compete for points for the remainder of the season.”

“We recently introduced a significant upgrade to the car and it is crucial for us to capitalize on every opportunity to score points in the highly competitive midfield battle.”

“We also place great value on investing in our young drivers within the Williams Racing Driver Academy. Franco now has an excellent chance to showcase his capabilities throughout the final nine rounds of the season.”
