Three races with a very exciting finish with a wonderful final sprints characterized this second day of the 28th Edition of the Malta Cycling Tour which was held on the 3.5km circuit of the Bypass of Đaz – Olive where the Elite did 15 laps, while the Women and the Masters did 12 laps.
In the main category of the Elite it was a very fast one where the Swiss Nicola Schleuniger of OBOR-BIKE AID Cycling Team ended up winning in a final sprint between five cyclists in a time of 1:33.29, and a small fraction of a second behind him came Bernard Galea of The Cyclist/Agones. At the same time, Heorhii Antonenko also of the OBOR-BIKE AID Cycling Team finished again in third position, just one second behind the first two. However, Bernard Galea remained the leader of the Tour with a total of 3:00:00, seven seconds ahead of Simone Cerio of ASD Team Simo Bike.
In the Ladies’ category, the Maltese/Australian Jessica Pratt of Team Greens came out victorious again in a time of 1:24:01 in a final sprint with Mathilde Pauls of FTP RACING (UK) who finished a second behind her, while the Maltese Diana Muscat of Team Greens finished third in 1:28:47. In the general classification Pratt kept the red jersey of the first place with a total time of 1:51:37, a lead of seven seconds over Mathilde Pauls.
In the Masters category, Daniele Dale of BPC Race Team (UK) emerged victorious in a time of 1:20:06, seconds ahead of David Michinson of Cinnamon Cafe Saddle Drunk Race Team and Etienne Bonello of Team Greens who both recorded the same time of one second behind the winner. Colombian Joaquin Rojas of Team Greens remained the leader of this category with a total time of 1:45:10, one second ahead of his teammate Etienne Bonello.
At the end of this stage, Daniel Borg Olivier, Treasurer of the Maltese Cycling Federation and Steve Zammit Lupi from the Local Council of Zebbug presented the medals to the winners. This Tour is being held under the auspices of the Maltese Cycling Federation, with the support of SportMalta and the Maltese Olympic Committee.
