Steve Martin will have his final boxing match on Friday night at the Fight Island event, held at the National Basketball Arena in Ta’ Qali. He will face Elton Azzopardi, who is younger and heavier than him.
Martin said this last fight means a lot to him, and he wants to finish his career in the right way. Even though Azzopardi is a tough opponent, Martin chose him because he wanted a real challenge for his final bout. He trained hard, partly with his coach Barry Smith and partly on his own, and says he’s ready to give his best one last time. He wants fans to remember this as a fight full of courage and heart.
Azzopardi, who already holds two national boxing titles, said he’s been training twice a day for three months and feels confident. He claims he had been challenging Martin for a year, and now that Martin has accepted, he’s ready to prove himself and win in front of everyone at Fight Island.
