Swieqi United are top of the Women’s National Beach Soccer League after winning both of their opening matches and collecting the maximum six points.
They started strongly with a dominant 8-1 win over Parr Mela. Oriana Bedingfield scored a hat-trick, Therese Briffa added two goals, while Vanessa Carneiro, Michela Felice, and Krista Montfort also got on the scoresheet. Parr Mela’s only goal came from Edna Vargas.
Swieqi continued their fine form in their second match, beating St George’s 9-3. Although St George’s, who were playing their first match, took an early lead, Swieqi quickly took control. Vanessa Carneiro was the standout with four goals, Krista Montfort scored twice, and Mari Oliveira, Oriana Bedingfield, and Valentina Cabrales each added one. St George’s goals were scored by Shakira Bugeja, Audrey Chetcuti, and Kirsty Paris.
Lija Athletic had a mixed start. They won their first game 7-6 against Zero Sei in a thrilling match. Jasmine Vella Turner scored a hat-trick, Ylenia Azzopardi netted twice, and Nell Zarb Cousin and Melissa Galea also scored. Zero Sei’s goals came from a hat-trick by Patricia Araujo, two from Rocio Robles, and one from Eliza Czik.
However, Lija then lost 8-7 in a close contest with Parr Mela. Edna Vargas scored five goals for Parr Mela, with Isabella Otero, Oumayma Jellili, and Carol Salazar also scoring. Lija’s Sarah Micallef scored four, Yasmin Vella Turner added two, and Ylenia Azzopardi scored once.
