Two pro-Palestinian protesters threw red powder onto Tower Bridge shortly before the leading runners of the London Marathon passed by.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the demonstrators were arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and are currently in custody.
A video released by Youth Demand — a group advocating for a trade embargo on Israel — shows two individuals jumping over a barrier separating spectators from the racecourse.
Wearing t-shirts that read “Youth Demand: Stop Arming Israel,” the pair were seen standing in the middle of the bridge’s roadway.
They throw red powder in the air as an official marathon car goes past displaying the race time.
A motorbike with a cameraman on board continues along the route, while a second motorbike stops and one of the race officials gets off and pushes the pair out of the way, just before the men’s elite runners pass.
Several police officers then jump over the barrier and detain the pair, the footage shows.
Over 56,000 runners were anticipated to compete in the 26.2-mile race across the capital.
Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe claimed victory in the men’s elite race with a time of two hours, two minutes, and 27 seconds, while Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa broke the women’s-only world record, finishing in two hours, 15 minutes, and 50 seconds.
Assefa surpassed the previous record of two hours, 16 minutes, and 16 seconds, which was set last year in London by Kenya’s Peres Jepchirchir.
