A nomination has been submitted for the post of General Secretary of the Maltese Olympic Committee following recent administrative changes within the national body.
Sports official and lawyer Sue Mercieca has put forward her name for the role after Kevin Azzopardi took up a new position with AIMS, creating a vacancy within the committee’s executive structure.
Mercieca, who currently serves as Club Secretary of Aquahub Malta, has previously been involved in sports administration through roles on various boards and committees, including past service within the Maltese Olympic Committee structure. Her professional background also includes experience in journalism and legal practice, with involvement in sports-related governance and disciplinary work over the years.
Her nomination is understood to have been submitted in accordance with established procedures. However, with the process still open, additional candidates may yet enter the race before the deadline.
Nominations for the post of General Secretary will remain open until Saturday, 21 February. Elections for the role are scheduled to be held on 25 March 2026, when member associations of the MOC will convene to vote for the official who will oversee the administrative duties of the Maltese Olympic Committee for the upcoming term.
