Draws have taken place on Thursday afternoon for the UEFA European Futsal Championship 2024-26.
This is the first time the Malta Futsal Team has progressed to the Main Round of competition, where they have been pitted in a group that also contains Italy, Finland, and Belarus.
Teams will compete for ten finals and eight play-off spots between December this year and April 2025.
The Malta Futsal Team led by coach Gabriel Dobre last month has progressed in a historic feat for the first time to the Main Round, having conquered in a UEFA Preliminary Round group winning all matches in Switzerland, 2-1 against the hosts, this was final match that followed a 4-1 win over Scotland, and an 8-0 hammering by the boys over Gibraltar.
All this enabled the team to climb fourteen places to 103rd place in the FIFA rankings from the previous 117th place.
Portugal won the last two Futsal EURO in 2018 and 2022 and also triumphed in the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup and 2022 Futsal Finalissima.
