Team Malta’s women’s basketball side closed their GSSE campaign with a well-earned silver medal after a spirited performance in the final against tournament favourites Luxembourg.
The quartet of Steffi De Martino, Danika Galea, Kristy Galea, and Amber Melgoza impressed throughout the competition, delivering consistent displays of skill and determination. In the final, they faced a powerful Luxembourg side and, despite their efforts, fell short with a 19-15 defeat in a fast-paced contest.
Earlier in the tournament, Malta secured an emphatic 21-12 victory over Cyprus in the semi-finals, setting the stage for their shot at gold. The 3×3 basketball format, which was introduced during the Malta 2023 edition, had seen both the men’s and women’s teams miss out on medals back then, making this year’s silver medal a notable milestone in the sport’s development for Malta.
