Lando Norris has taken pole for the Belgian Grand Prix after a close battle with McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri. Norris’ first lap was quick enough to stay on top after Piastri couldn’t improve his final run.
Charles Leclerc finished third, just ahead of Max Verstappen, while Alex Albon pulled off a brilliant lap to take fifth for Williams.
It was a tough day for Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli, who were both knocked out in the first round of qualifying for the second day in a row. George Russell managed sixth in the other Mercedes, with Yuki Tsunoda impressing in seventh.
Racing Bulls drivers Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson both made it into the top 10, along with Gabriel Bortoleto, who continued his strong run of form.
Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman just missed out on Q3 in 11th and 12th, while Pierre Gasly and Nico Hulkenberg ended up 13th and 14th. Carlos Sainz could only manage 15th after struggling to repeat his earlier pace.
Hamilton looked to have made it through, but his lap was deleted for going off track at Turn 4, leaving him in 16th. Rookies Franco Colapinto and Kimi Antonelli ended 17th and 18th.
Aston Martin had a poor showing, with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll at the very back of the grid.
