After two draws and one defeat in their opening three matches, Żabbar St. Patrick are still searching for their first win of the YoHealth Malta Premier campaign. Their next opportunity comes this evening at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, where they face reigning champions Ħamrun Spartans. Kick-off is scheduled for 18:45.
The Saints will be under pressure to start collecting points, but facing Ħamrun may not offer the ideal conditions to do so. The Spartans are coming off a strong weekend performance, having secured their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Mosta.
Head coach Giacomo Modica’s side will look to build on that result, and they will enter the match as clear favourites. Goals from Joseph Mbong and El Mehdi El Fanis, both substitutes at half-time, gave Ħamrun their breakthrough win last weekend, and with several players expected to return from injury, confidence will be high in the Spartans’ camp.
In attack, Ħamrun will be counting on Bosnian striker Semir Smajlagić, who showed promising signs in his debut against Mosta and is expected to lead the line once again.
The last time these two sides met was in the 2023/24 season, when Ħamrun edged Żabbar with a narrow 1-0 win.
