Agreement reached between clubs and city council, green light for San Siro sale

Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala has confirmed that an agreement has been reached with AC Milan and Inter over the sale of San Siro, paving the way for the stadium’s redevelopment.

Speaking live on RTL 102.5, Sala said: “If all goes well, tomorrow we should be going to the council with the resolution for the sale of San Siro, because in fact we have reached an agreement with the clubs. The stadium must be ready by 2031, because UEFA is telling us that they will not consider Milan for the 2032 European Championship if San Siro remains in its current state.”

The terms of the sale have not yet been disclosed, but after years of delays and speculation, this is now seen as a detail. If no further setbacks arise in the council, Milan and Inter will finally be able to plan a modern, club-owned stadium on the historic site, bringing it up to the standards of Europe’s best venues.

The breakthrough marks the end of a long and, at times, exhausting process. Both clubs had previously explored alternative locations, with Inter considering Rozzano and Milan assessing San Donato. Ultimately, however, the shared home of the Nerazzurri and Rossoneri will remain in the heart of the city for the long term.

Now all that remains is to await tomorrow’s decision with optimism. After years of negotiations, the long-awaited agreement has been reached. The task now is to deliver the modern stadium that Milan deserves.
