Ħamrun Spartans….2
Marsaxlokk.…………0
Ħamrun Spartans delivered a composed and determined performance at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Monday night, securing a crucial 2-0 victory over Marsaxlokk F.C. and reducing the gap to league leaders Floriana F.C. to just two points.
From the opening whistle, the Spartans showed clear intent, pressing high and controlling possession while limiting Marsaxlokk’s space in midfield. Although the first half ended goalless, Ħamrun looked the more threatening side, moving the ball with pace and creating the better opportunities.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 61st minute when Eleke Blessing found the back of the net, calmly finishing to register his first goal since joining the club in January. The goal lifted the home side, who continued to dictate the tempo and manage the game intelligently.
Marsaxlokk attempted to push forward in search of an equaliser, but Ħamrun remained organised at the back and dangerous on the counterattack. The result was put beyond doubt in the 80th minute when Joseph Mbong sealed the victory with a well-headed finish, sparking celebrations among the home supporters.
The win sets up a mouth-watering top-of-the-table clash this Sunday at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, where Ħamrun will face leaders Floriana in a direct showdown. A victory for the Spartans would see them leapfrog their rivals and go top of the Closing Round standings, adding even greater significance to what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
