Paul Zammit no longer Sliema Wanderers coach by mutual consent

Sliema Wanderers have officially announced that the club and senior team head coach, Paul Zammit, have mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Wanderers confirmed that the decision followed discussions held in what the club described as a positive and constructive spirit, with both parties concluding that a separation was in the best interests of the club moving forward.

“This decision was not taken lightly,” the club stated.
“After careful consideration, both parties concluded that this step is in the best interests of the Club as it continues to focus on its sporting objectives and long-term vision.”

Zammit had been in charge of Sliema Wanderers since 2022 and leaves behind a notable legacy. Under his guidance, the club secured promotion from the Challenge League before going on to lift the FA Cup in 2023. He also led the Wanderers to the final four of the competition last season, re-establishing the club as a competitive force in Maltese football.

However, recent inconsistency in performances and results has led to increased scrutiny, with the club opting for a change as the season reaches a crucial phase.

Sliema Wanderers placed on record their appreciation for Zammit’s contribution during his tenure.

“The club would like to thank Paul Zammit for his commitment, professionalism and the work carried out during his time with the Club, and wishes him every success in his future professional endeavours.”

The club confirmed that further updates regarding the senior team’s technical setup will be communicated in due course, with interim arrangements expected to be clarified in the coming days.

Zammit departs Sliema Wanderers as one of the most experienced coaches in the Maltese game, having previously held senior roles with Mosta, Valletta, Birkirkara, Gżira United and Balzan, in addition to his spell with the Wanderers.
