Juventus have begun exploring the possibility of re-signing Federico Chiesa during the January transfer window, with initial contacts already established with the player’s entourage to assess the feasibility of a return to Turin.
The interest is understood to be concrete rather than speculative, with the Bianconeri evaluating a potential loan deal until the end of the season. Chiesa, who joined Liverpool around 18 months ago, is keen for increased playing time after a campaign in which opportunities have been limited under head coach Arne Slot.
So far this season, the Italian international has started just once in the Premier League, making a further 14 appearances from the bench and scoring two goals. A return to Serie A would appeal to Chiesa, not only for sporting reasons but also to strengthen his chances of earning a call-up from Italy head coach Gennaro Gattuso ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
From Juventus’ perspective, the club is actively seeking reinforcements in attacking areas. A potential return for Chiesa would offer depth and experience, while also providing an alternative option to youngster Kenan Yildiz in wide attacking roles.
Despite Juventus’ interest, the operation remains complex. Liverpool are reluctant to allow the winger to depart midseason, even though he is not a guaranteed starter. With Mohamed Salah currently away on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Egypt, the Reds are keen to retain Chiesa as part of their attacking rotation.
Juventus are not alone in monitoring the situation. Chiesa’s name has also been linked with interest from AS Roma and SSC Napoli, although no formal offers have been confirmed at this stage.
Chiesa previously spent four seasons at Juventus, a period marked by both success and adversity. During his time in Turin, he made 131 appearances, scoring 32 goals and providing 24 assists. He played a key role in the club’s domestic triumphs, winning two Coppa Italia titles and one Supercoppa Italiana, including scoring the decisive goal in the Coppa Italia final against Atalanta.
His spell was also disrupted by a serious knee injury in January 2022, when he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture that sidelined him for ten months. Nevertheless, Chiesa remains highly regarded in Turin, and Juventus’ interest reflects a desire to bring familiarity, quality and experience back into their attacking ranks.
Whether a deal can be completed in January remains uncertain, but Juventus’ renewed interest underlines Chiesa’s enduring appeal and the club’s determination to strengthen ahead of the decisive second half of the season.
