The YoHealth Malta Premier League match between Gżira United FC and Birkirkara FC, which was postponed yesterday, has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 19:00 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, as decided by the Malta Premier League.
Birkirkara FC later confirmed the rescheduling, adding that Tuesday’s FA Trophy match has also been postponed to the 25th February 2026.
The club said its President and committee members were in constant contact with the Malta Premier and the Malta Football Association to reach a fair solution, noting that with a tight schedule ahead, any further delays or uncertainty were not feasible.
Free entrance for Birkirkara supporters
Following discussions between all parties, it was initially decided that only ticket holders would be allowed entry. However, Birkirkara FC announced that, as a gesture of appreciation for supporter loyalty during recent difficult months, the club will cover the cost of all remaining tickets and allow free entrance for this match.
Why the match was postponed?
The original fixture, scheduled for Friday evening at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, was cancelled shortly before kick-off due to concerns over the height of the goalposts.
The match had been delayed by 15 minutes before Birkirkara’s goalkeeper and club officials raised objections about the goal frame dimensions. Measurements reportedly showed the goalposts at approximately 236 cm and 240 cm, below the required height.
Under IFAB’s Laws of the Game, the distance from the ground to the lower edge of the crossbar must be 2.44 metres (244 cm). Because the goalposts did not meet this requirement, the match was called off to comply with competition regulations.
