YoHealth Malta Premier 2025/26 – Closing Round
Ħamrun Spartans..…1
Floriana………..……..1
What looked set to be Floriana’s first win over reigning champions Ħamrun Spartans since February 2018 ended in heartbreak for the Greens.
With the very last kick of the game, Matthew Guillaumier found the back of the net to rescue a point for Ħamrun and keep them just two points behind the league leaders.
Ħamrun started the match on the front foot and looked the more dangerous side early on. However, against the run of play, Floriana took the lead on 12 minutes. A long pass from Mbong split the defence and found Dervisagic unmarked. He pushed forward and, despite pressure from Xerri and Bonello, calmly finished past the goalkeeper.
Floriana nearly struck again soon after when Mbong broke through from a Varela pass, but the flag went up for offside. Ħamrun responded midway through the half, with Garcia and Cioletti linking up well, only for Mendonca to clear the danger. From the resulting corner, Xerri came close with a header that drifted just wide. Floriana also threatened before the break, but Mendonca’s header went off target.
After the interval, Ħamrun increased the pressure. Guillaumier set up Jonny early in the second half, but his effort was blocked, and the rebound was cleared. A free-kick later on offered another opportunity, yet it came to nothing.

Just when it seemed Floriana would hold on for a long-awaited win, the decisive moment arrived in stoppage time. Serber’s run into the box caused problems, and although the initial danger was stopped, the ball fell kindly to Guillaumier, who had been left unmarked and made no mistake, firing into an empty net to rescue a dramatic late point for Ħamrun.
With just two points now separating the sides, the title race is finely balanced heading into the final two matches of this phase.
Floriana will take on Sliema Wanderers and Birkirkara, while Ħamrun Spartans face Birkirkara and Mosta in their remaining fixtures.
Before that, however, Ħamrun turn their attention to the FA Trophy, where they meet Valletta this Wednesday in the quarter-final.
