Floriana began their YoHealth Malta Premier League campaign with a 3-1 win over Naxxar Lions, showing that they’ll once again be among the teams fighting for trophies this season.
In the 17th minute, Floriana took the lead when Gamarra made a good pass to Coelho, who made a quick run into the box. He then passed the ball low to Jah, who slotted it into the net from close range to make it 1-0. Jah dedicated the goal to his teammate Carlo Zammit Lonardelli, who will be out for several months due to injury.
Floriana doubled their lead ten minutes later with a brilliant free kick from Francisco Coelho, who beat Debono to make it 2-0.
In the 53rd minute, Naxxar pulled one back after putting pressure on Floriana. Batista won the ball from Vella and fired a low shot from inside the box past Da Silva, making it 2-1.
Floriana scored their third in the 63rd minute. Jake Grech took a corner and found Mendonca in a good position who powered a strong header past Debono to seal the 3-1 win.
